Chinese
Scientists visit Hawaii Livestock Facilities
On September 29,
2003, Carl Evensen, along with Michael Duponte, Glen Fukumoto and
Milton Yamasaki, hosted a group from the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture
and the State Environmental Protection Administration. Dr. Mike O'Neill,
the CSREES Water Quality program leader, requested the visit for
the group, who were accompanied by Dr. Lin Xin, Deputy General Manager
for China Green Enterprise Limited, and by Mr. Tim Smith, Director
for the London-based firm, Environmental Resources Management. Their
goal is to develop a comprehensive plan and policy for rural Non-Point
Source Pollution control in the Peoples Republic of China. The Chinese
government is concentrating initially on livestock waste and were
in Hawaii to observe management practices that could have potential
for use in China.
