Research Interests

My research focuses on critical periods in growth and development, where nutritional status has an important effect on clinical outcomes and lifetime risk of disease development. The two periods of time in growth and development which appear to be particularly important in development and continuation of obesity are the perinatal period and adolescence.

In addition, I remain interested in how evidence is applied in practice from research, quality assurance and education perspectives. I work with a number of clinicians on inter-disciplinary projects with nutrition in critical care, pediatrics and surgery.

Extension activities

My nutrition extension work focuses on two main areas. One is the promotion of local agriculture in nutrition and development, and the second is the provision of professional development opportunities to dietitians and health professionals across the state.
