Native Plant Workshops at

University of Hawaii
Leeward Community College
Spring 2004

ALL WORKSHOPS

Come prepared for walking outdoors in the sun. Workshops included tour of native plants gardens, and working inside newly developed shade house propagation center on campus.


NATIVE PLANT PROPAGATION

Sunday, Jan 25, 1 to 4 pm. Room MS 108. Tour Leeward s Native Plant Gardens and learn how to propagate native dryland plants from cuttings and seeds provided.


NATIVE PLANT MAINTENANCE

Sunday, Feb. 22, Room. MS 108, 1 to 4 pm. Learn about where to plant native dryland plants, soil preparation, drip irrigation, mulching, pruning and pest control. Dress for some gardening activity.


USES AND PROPAGATION OF HAWAIIAN MEDICINAL PLANTS

Sunday, Mar 21, 1 - 4pm. Room. MS 108. Native plants such as hapu'u, koa, ko'oko'olau and 'ilima had applications in Hawaiian culture, as well as the Polynesian Introductions such as shampoo ginger, olena and ko. In recent times, "weeds" have become widely used by healers as well. You will receive seeds and cuttings, and learnabout their propagation. This workshop provides information about their uses but does not have does not endorse any particular treatment. Only state certified Hawaiian healers have the expertise for safe application of medicinal plants.



Each Workshop Costs $25.00
