Trees for improving sustainability, resource conservation, and profitability on farms and ranches

Kona: Tuesday May 16th through Friday May 19th, 2006.

Guam and Palau: Monday June 26th through Friday June 30th, 2006

A pair of agroforestry workshops will be held in Hawaii and in Guam and Palau this spring. These workshops are for agriculture and natural resource professionals and farmers and ranchers who would like to learn more about using agroforestry in the Pacific Islands. Craig Elevitch (Permanent Agriculture Resources), Bart Lawrence (USDA NRCS - Guam), Diane Raganoe (National Tropical Botanical Garden), Mike Robotham (USDA NRCS - Hawaii), and J. B. Friday (UH Manoa CTAHR) have assembled a team of experts in their respective fields and selected outstanding field sites to visit during the workshops. Space is limited to 50 participants to each workshop, so please sign up early if you are interested. Descriptions of the projects, lists of presenters, and registration forms are available at the Permanent Agriculture Resources website. These workshops are being produced by Permanent Agriculture Resources in Holualoa and supported by a grant from the USDA Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program.


Vegetative Propagation of Agroforestry Trees

Saturday May 20th, 2006.

A special workshop on vegetative propagation of trees by Dr. Roger Leakey is being held in Kona right after the Kona agroforestry workshop. This workshop would be of interest to agroforesters, fruit growers, and conservationists. The conference was co-sponsored by UH-CTAHR, Garden Island RC&D, Hawaii Agriculture Research Center, USDA NRCS, County of Kauai, Kauai District of DOFAW, and Hawaii Forestry and Communities Initiative.
