| The
Western subcollection is one of the largest in the nation. With more
than 6,000 items, it focuses on the clothing worn by mainstream Americans
rather than the costume of the elite. Because most of the items were
donated by individuals who have migrated to Hawai'i from the mainland,
the collection represents the diversity of the larger American culture.
