1890 Partnership

Representatives of the 5 Pacific Land Grants and the 18 1890 historically black Land Grant institutions got together in Guam and Saipan, located in the Western Pacific, to discuss mutually beneficial partnerships.

Over the 7 days that we were together we found out that the two sets of schools had a lot in common. These similarities include, but are not limited to, the following:

	an appreciation for diversity
	a commitment to the Land Grant philosophy of people helping people
	a willingness to partner for mutual benefit
	an underserved, but equally deserving, clientele
	international experience
	a desire to think and operate differently
	a desire to make the world a bit better

The group decided to work together on the following areas of mutual interest:

	Institutional leadership development
	Student skill building
	Faculty skill building
	Common client social issues
	Common client agricultural issues
	Cooperation on political agendas where appropriate

Many tasks are still to be formalized, but there is a commitment to move ahead on a number of efforts simultaneously.
