NATIONAL SERVICE-LEARNING ORGANIZATIONS

USA Freedom Corps

The new website, www.usafreedomcorpskids.gov, also includes resources, ideas, and information to help parents and teachers engage America's youth in their communities.

National Service-Learning Exchange

The National Service-Learning Exchange supports high quality service-learning programs in schools, colleges and universities, and community organizations. The Exchange provides the "people connection" while the National Service-Learning Clearinghouse gathers and disseminates information and materials.

Service-Learning in Composition

This site provides a resource for teachers, researchers, and community partners interested in connecting writing instruction to community action. One aim of the site is to encourage dialogue among a growing network of service-learning educators.

Corporation for National Service

The Corporation for National Service carries on the tradition by working with governor-appointed state commissions, nonprofits, faith-based groups, schools, and other civic organizations to provide opportunities for Americans of all ages to serve their communities.

Americorps

The domestic Peace Corps train volunteers, tutor and mentor at-risk youth, build housing, clean up rivers and streams, help seniors live independently, provide emergency and long-term assistance to victims of natural disasters, and meet other community needs. After their term of service, members receive education awards to help finance their college or pay back student loans.

Learn and Serve America

Learn and Serve America helps support nearly one million students from kindergarten through college who are meeting community needs while improving their academic skills and learning the habits of good citizenship. In addition provides grants and scholarships for student service.

SERVICE AWARDS/RECOGNITION

Arbor Day Awards

The Arbor Day Awards Competition annually recognizes individuals, organizations, corporations, and the institutions whose work has set an example of excellence. Awards are given for work at the international, national, state, and community levels to recognize roadside beautification, education, tree planting and care, Arbor Day celebration and commitment to trees.

College Scholarships and Community Service Awards

Many companies and private foundations provide scholarships and community service awards for current college and college bound students.

National Caring Award

The Caring Institute seeks to identify, honor, and reinforce the activities of particularly caring Americans. Each year the Caring Institute recognizes 10 adults, and 5 young adults through the National Caring Awards.

National Environmental Awards

Keep America Beautiful National Awards Program recognizes outstanding organizations and people who encourage positive grassroots action and foster public-private partnerships to prevent litter, beautify and improve communities, and promote waste minimization.

Points of Light Foundation Award

The Foundation's mission is to engage more people more effectively in volunteer community service to help solve serious social problems. In partnership with several major business and nonprofit organizations, The Points of Light Foundation has established the Awards for Excellence in Corporate Community Service to recognize companies, of all sizes and from all industries.

President's Student Service Award

The President's Student Service Award is a White House initiative, which recognizes young Americans with awards and scholarships for outstanding community service, while encouraging more young people to serve.

Presidential Freedom Scholarship

The Presidential Freedom Scholarship promotes student service & civic engagement.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards is one program of a series that helps rekindle America's community spirit by encouraging young people to become actively involved in their community. This award recognizes young people in grades 5-12 who have demonstrated exemplary community service.

Boys & Girls Club of America

Boys & Girls Club provides services that promote and enhance the development of youth by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging, and influence. Boys & Girls Clubs makes a difference in the community by giving young people a safe place to learn and grow.

Co/Motion

Co/Motion is a national program that helps organizations build their capacity to foster youth leadership in the design, implementation, and evaluation of action strategies addressing community problems. Co/Motion partners with youth-led and youth-serving organizations, national service and service learning programs, schools and other national and community-based organizations, to provide training to young adults in advocacy and organizing skills.

Constitutional Rights Foundation

Constitutional Rights Foundation (CRF) is a non-profit, non-partisan, community-based organization dedicated to educating America's young people about the importance of civic participation in a democratic society. CRF develops, produces, and distributes programs and materials to teachers, students, and public-minded citizens all across the nation. They provide technical assistance and training to teachers, coordinate civic participation projects in schools and communities, organize student conferences and competitions, and develop publications.

Do Something

Do Something is a network of young people who know they can make a difference and change the world around them. As part of Do Something, you and your friends decide what you want to do to make things better and then turn your ideas into action.

Provides valuable resources to young people and supportive adults who are working to promote deepened and empowered roles for young people throughout society. freechild.org is your one-stop entry into the world of progressive information for young people and their adult allies on the internet today. freechild.org features research, publications and organizations that put forward the most innovative thinking about young people today, highlighting youth-developed resources.

Learning in Deed

Learning In Deed, a national initiative to engage more young people in service to others as part of their academic life. The Foundation has supported service learning for decades because they believe it engages youth in a powerful way that can help ensure a bright future for our nation.

National Youth Leadership Council

The National Youth Leadership Council's mission is to build vital, just communities with young people through service learning. As one of America's most prominent advocates of service learning and youth service, the NYLC is at the forefront of efforts to reform education and guide youth-oriented public policy.

YouthLearn

YouthLearn's mission is to advance the work of individuals working with youth, particularly in out-of-school learning programs, in ways that increase opportunities for young people. Through this Web site and other initiatives, YouthLearn provides a base of knowledge and rich resources for those starting or implementing out-of-school programs that integrate technology. YouthLearn also nurtures a learning community of those people and organizations to share knowledge and insights on improving their effectiveness and the effectiveness of their programs.

YouthNOISE

YouthNOISE is a group of young people and adults working together to provide info and resources--via the Internet--that will spark youth action and voice. Youth Service America

Youth Service America (YSA) is a resource center and premier alliance of 200+ organizations committed to increasing the quantity and quality of opportunities for young Americans to serve locally, nationally, or globally. AT&T Foundation Civic & Community Service

AT&T seeks to empower communities by giving them the resources they need to improve health and human services, promote diversity, protect the environment and stimulate volunteerism. AT&T supports a variety of civic and community service programs through direct grants and employee-directed contributions.

Colgate Cares - Youth for America

Colgate provides monetary grants to groups whose projects are the most innovative and successful. Winning projects have included adult literacy campaigns, environmental preservation projects, community restorations, senior citizen assistance, and anti-substance abuse programs.

Do Something

Do Something is a network of young people who know they can make a difference and change the world around them. As part of Do Something, you and your friends decide what you want to do to make things better and then turn your ideas into action.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Day of Service

Join thousands of Americans across the country honoring the life and work of Dr. King by serving their community on the King holiday. There are available funds for grants to support the Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Day Initiative

JC Penney

JC Penney has provided non-profit charitable organizations across the United States with over $24 million in support in 2000. Provides the corporate contributions guidelines when applying for grants.

National 4-H Council Youth Grant Program

The Youth-Corporate Connections Team of National 4-H Council offers grants for youth in local communities, in counties, and on the state level. These grants provide opportunities for young people and adults to take action on issues critical to their lives, their families, and their communities. Youth take the lead in the design of the project, the proposal writing process, the implementation, and the evaluation of funded projects.

Sears, Roebuck, and Company

Sears has had a long-standing commitment to corporate responsibility, including providing contributions to nonprofit organizations. In 2000, Sears and its associates, along with The Sears-Roebuck Foundation, donated more than $43 million in funding and merchandise to community organizations nationwide.

Sprint Community Service

Sprint and its employees have established a reputation for active corporate citizenship and community leadership, with commitments to various programs. The Sprint Foundation accepts proposals throughout the year.

Education Commission of the States

The Compact for Learning and Citizenship (CLC) is an organization of chief state school officers, district superintendents, service-learning professionals and others who support service learning. Members are committed to linking school-based service and service learning to K-12 curriculum and to organizing schools to maximize community volunteer efforts.

Student Service Learning

Montgomery county public schools students service learning website. Learn how one county is implementing service learning in their schools. Provides group and family project ideas, how to write a reflection paper, and helpful resources.

SchoolGrants: Grants and Opportunities for K-12 Schools

UH Manoa Service-Learning Program

UH Manoa has provided service leaving opportunities to its students since 1994 while furthering their education.

Campus Compact

Campus Compact is a national coalition of more than 740 college and university presidents committed to the civic purposes of higher education. Campus Compact promotes community service, encourages partnerships between campuses and communities, and assists faculty who seek to integrate public and community engagement into their teaching and research.

College and University Service Learning Programs

Find out which colleges and universities offer service learning. As well as course listings along with the syllabi. The site also includes service-learning discussion group archives, guides to service learning organizations, networks, venues, and resources.

Institute for Global Education & Service Learning

The Institute for Global Education and Service Learning, a non-profit training organization, creates service-learning programs and initiates activity based education in collaboration with schools and organizations around the world.

Service Learning Online Course

California State University - Chico offers a service-learning online course. It is geared toward pre-service teachers who are planning to teach K-12. The site promotes service learning in the classroom.
