Hands To Larger Service

On November 10, 2002, the Oahu 4-H Organization held our "Hands to Larger Service" service-learning project at the Urban Garden Center. Some of the tasks we accomplished were painting the picket fence, recycle bins, railings and bathroom louvers; cleaning the conference room and bathrooms; and re-striping the parking lot.

The youth team members were Sara Hashizume, Hannah Wong, Joli Umetsu, Lauren Higuchi, Marissa Matsuyama, Nicole Sakai, and Krysten Funasaki and their adult partners were Becky Kanenaka, Wanda Kohashi, Edna Wong, Lynn Hashizume, and Kristen Olyete. Our team captains were Mia Marquez and Erin Kanno.

Thanks to the many hands involved, lots of work was accomplished, we met and worked with new friends and had a good time.

How have we helped to make the Urban Garden Center a better place?

Why is it important for us to do things that will help the community and the people who live there?

What other things can we use your hands to do for your community?
