| • Oahu County Camp |
Thirty four campers had a great weekend at Camp Mokule'ia chaired by Ross Shibata. This camp was lead by teens who did all the activities including the council meeting, workshops, coordinating the meals and clean up. The younger members and teens got aquainted with an introductory game on Friday night.
On Saturday morning, the group toured Alluvion Inc. and learned about the various production Mrs. Susan Matsushita, owner has on the property including a nursery with plants for the garden shops to landscapers, a florist, rose plants, fruit trees and fishes. Then, they were off to the North Shore Soap Factory to learn how to make soap using local products.
After swiming and catching fishes in the tide pools in the early afternoon, the campers had a 3,2,1... Action workshop lead by Hannah Wong and Valerie Inafuku. Each group did a 1 minute taping of what they thought the Communication's Fair theme "Happy Ever After" meant to the them. The campers will get to see their finished products at the Communication's Fair.
That evening the campers made Hobo dinner and gathered around the camp fire to cook it. Of course, the crabs had some excitement when the campers were chasing them on the beach with their nets and flashlights. Camp isn't camp without the camp fire and s'mores. Sunday morning breakfast was another adventure when Dayna Domingo taught the group how to cook bacon and eggs in a brown bag over the fire.
Overall, everyone enjoyed themselves and had a relaxing time. Thanks to Uncle Stacey for getting the tent, shopping and setting up the camp site. Also, thanks to Aunty Sakaye who couldn't be at camp, but has trained her club members over the years and proved that teens can take the lead. Other club members assisting with this camp were Nicole Kahunahana, Tobi Kaneshiro, Stacie Nakashima, Kayla Schlaich, Kellie Takamori, Sasha Nomura Calistro and Devin Chun. It was also nice to have the other club leaders present for support.
