Welcome to Oahu 4-H's online newsletter. Happy holidays 4-Her’s! I hope everyone’s break is going good so far. To start off the first month this year, we’ll be having our 35th Annual Food Show on the 26th (Saturday) 4-9pm at Pearl City High School. I hope everyone has turned in their forms since the due date was last month. Don’t forget that we will be having a Food Show committee meeting on the 6th (Sunday) at UGC. This meeting is very important to check up on all the committees and resolve any glitches that may come up. Well I hope everyone is practicing their recipes for the food show. The holidays are a perfect time to practice preparing your dish and displaying it. Like they say “practice makes perfect”. Well I hope everyone has a fun and safe New Years. I hope to see everyone at the Food Show.
The Oahu County 4-H Fashion Show held on December 2, was a very successful event thanks to chair club FCCLA whose advisor is Linda Uyehara. The Hollywood theme of “Lights, Camera, Action” was well received by the audience. Congratulations go to Maile Miki who won the Top In Show award for the senior division. With the Hollywood theme, each participant walked down the red carpet onto the stage. The show was awesome with lots of prom gowns. The FCCLA members and Mrs. Claire Masumoto did a fantastic job decorating the stage. Ai-Lynn Nguyen and Terence Vaquilar were great emcees. The Just Us club prepared the high tea for lunch with food donations from all the clubs. Sakaye Nomura did an excellent job of coordinating the tea and decorating the serving table with a Christmas look. The following clubs did mini workshops: Warriors, Just Us, FCCLA and Pot of Gold. The mini workshops were a great idea, but we need to see how we can better utilize those workshops. Thank you also goes to Pot of Gold for securing the judges, Cloverkids for registration and Aunties Gail and Erlene for helping with the scoring. This year’s fashion show really turned out to be a “special event” for those who participated.
Back in September a team of Kyrra Lau-Eglinton, Hannah Wong and Linda Lau AhHee participated in a workshop calledHealth Rocks. They learned key health messages and skills such as critical thinking, how to manage stress, how to handle peer pressure and how to communicate effectively. Special emphasis is placed on tobacco use prevention. The Health Rocks! Healthy life curricula series will allow participants to experience activities that help them learn and adopt many important skills and to teach others.
Hope all of you have turn in your forms by the deadline. Now you are working on the testing your recipes, practicing setting up your display and will be ready for the Food Show on January 26, 2008 at the Pearl City High School. Hope to see you there.

The Constitution Committee of the 4-H Club Leaders’ Federation of Hawaii has revised the current Constitution and Bylaws and has proposed that the Federation adopt the revised Bylaws at the next State Conference scheduled for April 4-5, 2008 in Maui. The revisions were made so that the new Bylaws reflect what is currently being done, could be easily read, could be understood, are in proper order so that one can find things, are correct according to the Federation rule book RONR, and are in a modern and up-to-date language. The reorganizing of content and change of language does not affect anything that is currently being done within the Federation. To review the revisions or if you have any questions or concerns, please e-mail Bertha Kaui, Federation Constitution Chair, at bkaui@earthlink.net by February 29, 2008. Or, contact your county agent and he/she can forward the message to Bertha.
