Hey Everyone!
September is here! Last month we had our first council meeting and yummy pizzas to eat after. Thank you to all who came but we need more 4-H’ers at our next meeting. I hope everyone can come because there is so much to do and this is your chance to hear what’s going on and to share your ideas. If you can’t make it to the meeting but you have a question or idea, then you’re always welcome to email them to me.
This last meeting we got the calendar approved so please sign your club up for various chair committees. Your Executive Board officers are working very hard to plan these events but remember they can’t do it alone. We need your help if not we may have to cancel some events and we would hate to do that. So let’s all get involved this year and if you have questions regarding the events please don’t hesitate to call or email.
I would really like to make this year the best year ever and get everyone involved. But I can’t do it alone; I admit I do need your help. I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe sunny September. Oh and don’t forget on September 28, your forms will be due. I hope to see you at the HMSA Fair, it is going to be so much fun!

We have already started the 4-H year and had the first Council meeting on August 19th. All clubs should start reorganizing your clubs. The 4-H Enrollment Forms Y-1, Y-2, Y-3, Y-4 and Form 2 are all due on September 28th. You can download the forms from the 4-H website or call my office at 622-4185 to get your forms. It is really important that all clubs be registered for the start of the new 4-H year. We do have a busy schedule ahead of us with all the activities that the Executive Board planned and was approved at the last Council meeting.

Teaching other youth about cleanliness and how to be safe from germs is an excellent skill to teach others. We are still looking for 4-Hers and leaders to help at the Island Fresh Germ City booth on September 29th, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm at the Kakaako Park. Please call Rose at 622-4185 if your club would like to get involved.

| • 4-H Rabbit Club Looking for Members |
Do you love bunny rabbits? If so, we are looking for you! We are trying to start a 4-H rabbit club for youth, all ages invited. This club would meet once a month to learn more about all aspects of breeding, raising, and showing rabbits. Activities will be age-appropriate, depending on interest in the club, and we have a lot of fun projects in the works. It’s preferable if you have your own rabbit(s), but you are welcome to join if you don’t.
My children and I have a small rabbitry raising several different breeds of rabbits and are willing to adopt out some of our bunnies. We are also willing to let youth provide a temporary “foster” home for the bunnies for those who won’t be staying in the islands or who just want to see what it’s like to raise bunnies without committing.

| • Super Saturday for Army Reserves Youth |
While their parents were participating in monthly weekend trainings at Fort Shafter, children of Army Reserve soldiers were able to participate in a Super Saturday event planned especially for them. As part of the day long program, the Warriors 4-H club (Alyssa Ching, Staci Kohashi, Romina Furr, Sean Lee and Christopher Furr with leader Wanda Kohashi and adult helpers) shared project activities from the “Palette of Fun” 4-H project manual. Then the mother-daughter team of Merry and Allison Ifuku of the CloverKids 4-H club shared a foods and nutrition lesson. After a discussion of the food pyramid, 4-H’er Allison provided a demonstration of two smoothies. The third exciting 4-H session was provided by 4-H volunteer Pamela Juneman who is with the Na Lio O Waimanalo 4-H club. Pam shared a session on horses. What a great time the children had. Thank you to all the volunteers who shared their time and talents with the children.
