Hey 4-Hers --
I hope everyone is excited as I am for Halloween to come! I love to get dressed up and go around collecting a bag full of candies, which sounds really good. We are starting off October 7th to 13th with National 4-H week. Each Sunday in October will be dedicated to a 4-H promotion. October 7th is Children and Youth Day at the State Capital. October 14 is a council meeting and I hope to see your club there. Following the Council meeting we will be having our first Food Show meeting. I will be contacting clubs to sign up for the Food Show committees. Then, October 21st is Germ City at the Bishop Museum. I hope to see everyone at our upcoming events and especially at the council meeting; we have a lot of new information to share with everyone. Also thank you to the clubs who signed up to help at these promotions.
Yours truly,
Renni Fay Iwasa

“Lights, Camera, Action" is the theme for this year’s 4-H Fashion Show set for December 2, 2007 at the Art Auditorium. The morning will be prejudging and mini workshops. Lunch will be a “High Tea” atmosphere. The Farrington FCCLA Chapter will be chairing this event, so let’s get out those sewing machines and start to sew, sew, sew! You may also model ready-made garments too. Also, save Friday, November 2 for a workshop on know your fiber content, accessories, and modeling. Let’s encourage all the 4-H club members to get out and participate in this first 4-H function. Be on the lookout for more information on this exciting event.

Hello! My name is Ray Ballowe, 4-H volunteer Organizational Leader of the Shenandoah County, Virginia 4-H Interstate Exchange club. My group is looking for an exchange partner for a two year exchange 2008-2009 as our 4-H'ers have expressed an interest in Hawaii. We have just completed a two year exchange with Fairbanks, Alaska and have completed exchanges with North Dakota, Minnesota, and Oregon in the past years.
Our county is located 70 miles west of Washington DC. In past exchanges we have taken tours of Washington DC, civil war sites, beach, Natural Bridge, underground caverns just to name a few. We are flexible in planning to work in what your group would like to do.
Group information:
Consists of 10 girls, 4 boys and at least 2 adults.
Age of group members is 14-18.
Wish to host in 2008 and travel in 2009.
Looking for a 7 to 10 day exchange, and prefer mid July.
We’d love to hear from you if your group is interested in setting up an exchange program!

KGMB9 is bringing back an old classic: “Super Kids” - ordinary kids doing extraordinary things!
The new Hawaii’s Super Kids is based on a show by the same name that aired on KGMB9 from 1982-1993. It featured kids who excelled in many different areas, such as art, business, sports, music, academics, leadership, computers, electronics, rodeo, dance, acting, racing, teaching, airplane piloting, animation, film-making, comedy, designing, writing and TV/radio personalities (to name a few).
Past “Super Kids” have become Hollywood stunt doubles, danced for Madonna, choreographed for Janet Jackson, and owned their own businesses. “Super Kids” have had a huge impact locally as well. Na Hoku Hanohano award winner Na Leo Pilimehana was first featured back in 1984.
We are now looking for a new generation of “Super Kids” to inspire our youth. Every week we will profile a “Super Kid”- someone who is dynamic, energetic, and inspirational. If someone you know fits this description, we want to hear from you! You can submit an application by mail, fax, or online. If selected, your “Super Kid,” will be featured in a story and will be interviewed on Sunrise on KGMB9. Call 956-7196 or email nakatsuk@hawaii.edu for an application.

| • Hawaii Military 4-H 101 Training |
Hawaii Army and Air Force 4-H club leaders attended a three part 4-H 101 training to prepare them to lead 4-H clubs during the upcoming year. Besides learning the basics of 4-H, each club leader put together program plans (10 club meetings with 10 project lessons) for their individual clubs. Part IV and V of the training will be in November 2007 and January 2008.
Thank you to Army Trainers Rita Hall, Byron Nagasako and Sherilyn Tokunaga and USDA Specialist DeAnn Acosta for serving on the training team.
Hawaii will have 13 school-age and 8 teen clubs this year. We are also excited to have a Navy 4-H club for the first time.

This past month, I had the privilege of visiting with our Army partners on Kwajalein where I was able to meet with new 4-H leaders as well as provide a 4-H orientation and parts of 4-H 101. Do know that 4-H is alive and well on Kwajalein! We look forward to hearing about exciting 4-H happenings from their clubs this coming year.
