President’s Message

Happy Valentine’s Day!

It’s hard to believe February is already here and the 4-H year is almost halfway over.  There are a few changes required to adjust to the new 4-H year adopted by the council at the November council meeting.  We will have a council meeting at the Food Show on February 17, 2007.  At this meeting, we will be accepting nominations to the 2007-2008 Oahu County Executive Board.  I hope all 4-Hers take advantage of serving on the Executive Board because it is definitely a worthwhile experience.  Elections will be held at the April 15, 2007 council meeting.  Remember, all candidates must be present in order to run for office.

I am happy to report we have 43 entries with 31 participants for the Food Show.  This year, the cook book will contain food show entries from two years (2006 and 2007) and will be available at the Food Show.  Please mark your calendars and join us at Pearl City High School to view the creative presentations and taste the delicious dishes prepared by our 4-Hers.

The Communications Fair is tentatively scheduled for April 28, 2007 (site to be determined).  It definitely is not too early to start taking your pictures or preparing your visual presentations.  I hope all 4-Hers take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to express yourselves and build up your communication skills.

Thank you to Hannah Wong for sharing her wonderful experience from National Congress.  Remember 4-Hers, you too can attend Congress and participate in this great opportunity to meet 4-Hers from all over the country.  To qualify, you all you need to complete the Senior Portfolio.

The Helemano 4-H Photography club also had a hand in this project.
During the performance they took pictures throughout the entire presentation to not only practice their photography skills but to also document the event.

Other Opportunities

January '07 Mission of the Month: Digital Media Show and Tell

From 4-H clubs to summer camps to athletic teams, every youth program has something that makes it special.
While one group is painting a mural or creating a fair exhibit, another group is planting trees or building a Web site.
Some youth keep returning to their program to see their friends, to explore nature, to learn new skills or all of the above.  What about YOU?

During CYFERnet's Digital Media Show-and-Tell contest, you can let the world know what makes your CYFAR and 4-H program special.
Your mission is to use digital photography, video, audio or a mix of digital media to answer the question, "Why am I here?"
In other words, what do you enjoy most about your program?  What benefits keep you coming back for more?

Work independently or as a team to show off your art, communication and technology skills while telling your story.
CYFERnet will post submissions online for the public to enjoy.
Our panel of judges will announce and recognize the winners at the May 2007 CYFAR conference.

Visit http://www.cyfernet.org/4htech/missions.html for complete details.
