Welcome to Oahu 4-H's online newsletter.
Aloha 4-H Ohana!
What a great way to celebrate National 4-H Week by participating in this grand adventure. At the State Capitol grounds, we showed various videos from the 4-H Educational Resource Library, taught the children to make a potpourri with herbs from the Urban Garden Center, displayed the National 4-H curriculum and taught helicopter-making from the Aerospace project.
Thursday, November 9, 2006 (note new date) Urban Garden Center Garage 6:30 to 8:30 pm Nutritionist Pat Liang-Tong will show us how to make a delicious chili using ground turkey. We shall also have a no-cook dessert and Maryknoll’s favorite salad. We will continue with 4-H 101 by Rose Saito and make a fun scissors holster by Mary Takeshita. Come and Join Us for learning and fun! Call Maryknoll at 453-6053 or Rose at 622-4185 for headcount. Maryknoll Spotkaeff

Things to bring:
A hearty thank you to all those who helped man the CES Germ City Tent (and to our water engineers) at the Bishop Museum Family Sunday on October 22, 2006: Amber Kuitunen, Joli Uemetsu, Mari Chung, Marissa Matsuyama, Jolyne Kurihara, Gail and Jana Yakushiji, Erlene Matsuyama, Justin Miller, James Akinaka, Evan and Lynn Hashizume, Erin Nakatsuka, Kym Kanenaka, Jeri, Shui and Brittany Chang, Kristee, Allison and Cindy Ogata, Maile Miki, Kyrra Lau-Eglinton, Linda Lau AhNee, Cara and Kevin Dooley, Jaren and Susan Iwasa and to Becky Kanenaka for coordinating this event.
Welcome to the newest 4-H club organized on Oahu. Their present club name is Cloverbuds as these girls are having fun deciding upon a name that suits their many personalities. These are a bunch of rambunctious 5-year-old girls that meet in Pearl City. Leader Wendi Lau has been meeting with them and together they are having fun while learning. We look forward to seeing Wendi and her group of Cloverbuds. Maryknoll Spotkaeff
This is a special event for both foster children and the families who accept the children into their family. This program has been very successful over the years, as it provides a time for support and connection between the many individuals of the foster care services. The holiday party is a designated day of fun, especially for the kids. There is going to be lunch served to them, entertainment, fun-filled activities, family photos, a Christmas present for every child, and an appearance by Santa Claus. (and much more!) Of course, this will take some man power. It is a well-established event, so there are already quite a number of volunteers from other organizations that participate annually. *We are asking that all members of the Oahu County 4-H Organization take the time to consider volunteering for a good cause. The program is in need of volunteers to help run the different stations/ activities set up for the children. A possible earlier arrival on that day and/or help with gift-wrapping is also welcomed. (As for specifics, as in which stations we will be helping out at, we are still not certain. The program's planning committee will have a meeting on Thursday, October 26, 2006, so I should know more details by Friday-Oct. 27.) As of now, however, we just need people to start thinking about this service project--and seriously considering participating in it, and getting back to me as soon as possible! My e-mail address: machung@iolani.org or mari1223@hotmail.com (Mari Chung) or to co-chair Hannah Wong soccergalhannah@hawaii.rr.com As more information becomes available, I will try and get in contact (via telephone or email) with the different clubs to check up on interest and participation. Date: December 17, 2006 (Sunday) Time: 10 am- 3 pm Location: Neal Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall (Parking at the Blaisdell is $4.00--non-refundable) Thank you! Mari and Hannah
