4-H Vision:

4-H is a world leader in developing youth to become productive citizens and catalysts for positive change to meet the needs of a diverse and changing society. Through 4-H youth development education, youth will:

  • Practice effective problem-solving and decision-making skills;
  • Practice responsible health behavior;
  • Be environmental stewards;
  • Possess positive work attitudes and skills;
  • Value diversity;
  • Have a strong sense of community and social responsibility;
  • Contribute to positive relationships with families, peers, and community;
  • Demonstrate communication and leadership skills;
  • Value life long learning;
  • Feel the personal pride that comes with mastery; and
  • Feel valued and utilized as a resource in their community.

We, like the rest of the nation wide 4H youth development programs, believe in this vision and know that it is possible to develop leaders for our upcoming future.

The Molokai 4-H Program has undergone many changes since the start of its first clubs. Due to budget cutbacks and the reorganization of the College of Tropical Agriculture/Human Development Resources (CTAHR) under which Extension Services operates, the leaders have been requested to take on more responsibilities. We are now asked to take on all but 20% of the time allocated to our Extension Agent. This will allow them to put more time into covering what is needed elsewhere in the community.

Despite the changes, Molokai 4-H is still a vital part of the community. But, we are not alone at doing this. We owe much of our gratitude to our volunteer leaders/adults, senior resource persons (most of whom no longer have children in the program), merchants, community members and youth. These individuals have put in many hours of phone calls, Internet surfing, grant writing, donations and much more to keep this program alive. Without them Molokai 4-H would not be here today.

The 4-H program is open to all youth between the ages of 5 thru 19, regardless of sex, race, color, or religious belief. If you are interested in joining a club in your area, or starting up a club of your own, or becoming involved as a youth leader call the Cooperative Extension Service at 567-6388 or see our "Contact Us" page.
